Market Day in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue & Village of Roussillon |
This morning we will visit the colorful and famous food and antique markets of Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. It's easy to fall in love with this small town, the "Venice of the Comtat" - so called because here the green waters of the river Sorgue divide into five branches that form a series of islands. Take a tour of the market, stop by the baroque 17th-century church Notre-Dame-des-Anges, then take a stroll along the river banks lined with plane trees. Enjoy browsing at the antiques displayed in the open-air flea market or visit some of the antiques galleries where you may discover the object of your dreams!
LUNCH: We invite you for champagne and a delightful lunch served with Côtes du Luberon wine at our house in the countryside, next to the charming village of Roussillon.
After lunch we will head up to the hilltop village of Roussillon (from roux, red), nicknamed the "Colorado of the Luberon" from the stunning seventeen hues of ocher coloring the facades of the houses. Here, deep red and golden yellow quarries set among green pines trees and the rich blue sky, create a fantastic universe. The panoramic view of the Luberon will take your breath away..
Roussillon is a magic place, with several art and crafts galleries representing excellent local artists.
Paintings
of Provençal landscapes, and pottery made from
the ocher clay and blends of mineral oxides are beautiful.
Walk through the village with its colorful streets, small
gardens and squares, and its 11th century
church. Enjoy the lovely view of the Val des Fees (fairy
valley) and the rust red cliff, then sit at the terrace of
a café on the Place de la Mairie with 18th
century houses. Tip: Your guide will then pass through your home village of Gordes, provide you with a brief orientation and point out several restaurants for evening dining. You can easily walk to most restaurants from your lodging
