Medieval Provence: Journey to Gordes & Senanque

This morning let's tour the beautiful village of Gordes and take part in the lively weekday market. There is a lot to see: stands displaying an incredible variety of regional specialty food - cheese, sausages, honey, breads, pastry; others with baskets of herbs, olive wood carvings and lavender products. You'll find Provençal fabric to decorate a room, table cloth and napkins to dress up a table back home; art galleries, craft shops, jewelery stores, and much more. You will enjoy your time there shopping or just looking!  You can also visit the chateau with its magnificent fireplaces and doors, and the 18th century church which was built above a Roman building.

LUNCH:  There is lot of nice restaurants in the village, but you might just prefer to enjoy a picnic with the goodies you bought at the market.
After lunch we'll drive across the valley surrounded by lavender fields, stop by the Abbaye de Sénanque which is one of  the purest examples of Romanesque architecture.  Then we'll visit the Lavender Museum which displays antique copper stills and watch a movie explaining different distillation processes.  The museum's boutique sells excellent lavender products.

Tip: Today you can make dinner reservations or buy specialty foods and dine on your terrace.   We carry a cooler, or you have time to walk back to your lodging and put your food in the refrigerator .

DINNER:

Dinner on your own.
